Trombonefire

www.trombonefire.de
The inspiration for
this concept of 4 trombones and rhythm was originally the success of
J.J.Johnson and Kai Winding in the 50`s. The popularity of this
unconventional group had a lot to do with the virtuosity and melodic
interplay aswel as the original arrangements a format which
Trombonefire pursue today.

Stephan Kurmann focuses on integration in his musical work with the
“Strings” and aims at a balanced proportion of written, fully-composed
and improvised music. Handling the strings like the instrumental set of
a big band, so to say in the spirit of ingenious Gil Evans, and
employing them as full-fledged and equal partners of the jazz soloists
and the rhythm group, he creates fascinating contrasts and, time after
time, new conjunctions between fully composed material and spontaneous
fantasy. This results in a broad spectrum of new timbres, in a
self-standing, consequently pursued concept of sound. |

Vitold Rek`s "East West Wind"
Adrian Mears (AUS) - trombone/didgeridoo
Adam Pieronczyk (PL) - alto/soprano/tenor saxophone
Jeff Williams (USA) -drums
Vitold Rek (PL) - double bass/voice
"The music of EWW is inspired by and has its roots in Jazz and Global
World Music. Using the didgeridoo, the primeval Australian wind
instrument, the quartet seeks to express "our history and longing for
our ancient homeland".
The musicians do not provoke the break with tradition. They nurture the
roots of jazz as well as those of world music folklore and European
romanticism."
(Jazz Podium, 7-8/1997, Germany)
"The four individuals fulfill Reks striving towards integration with
captivating sovereignty. Contemporary jazz and vocal hints at unknown
cultures fuse into an imposing depth of expression and East West Wind
joins the ranks of renowned Fusion Ensembles."
(Frankfurter Allgemeine, 4/1997, Germany )
